FRA selects Zeta LED technology to light the way at Westgate Oxford

The Westgate Oxford development is anchored by a John Lewis flagship store and has over 100 retail units and a garden roof terrace with restaurants and cafes. As specialists in their field, FRA formulated a wayfinding scheme designed to capture visitors at all entry points to the 800,000 sq. ft. open shopping centre, which comprises a series of streets, spaces and squares.

By analysing and mapping journeys, FRA plotted the optimum location for each of the eleven 800mm x 3000mm full-size totems and five smaller totems measuring 500mm x 2400mm that seamlessly guide shoppers through horizontal and vertical routes, and includes centre directories and finger points at key decision nodes.

To ensure the signage quality was consistent and seamless throughout the development, FRA worked closely with specialist signage companies, IS Group and Ascot Signs Systems.

For FRA, key criteria included ensuring the signage was effective and user-focussed, the information contained succinct and consistent, and that the overall design reflected the brand ethos. The ability to illuminate the totems in order to enable visitors to read information at all times was an important factor and it turned to LED and solar lighting specialist Zeta for a cost-effective, energy-efficient solution.
