The Challenge

Solar Powered Light Guide Panels for Belisha Beacons in Westminster.

Motorists will be familiar with the style of a Belisha Beacon on pedestrian crossings and are required to slow down when approaching and stop if pedestrians are on the crossing. The presence of a Belisha Beacon increases awareness and provides additional visibility to zebra crossings for motorists, primarily at night making the crossing safer.

Zeta were asked by Westminster City Council if they could provide a solar powered Belisha Beacon that would be maintenance free, save on costs and save on use of electricity for a cleaner more green lighting solution.

The Solution

In response Zeta offered their superior, durable and cost effective Belisha Beacon. Zeta’s Belisha Beacons use long lasting solar power and Light Guide panel technology.

In March, Zeta provided and fitted two solar powered Light Guide panel Belisha Beacons onto central reservations in Notting Hill, Westminster. The crossings are now much more noticeable, especially at night.

Key Benefits

Zeta’s Belisha Beacon incorporates a stand alone unit that can be installed anywhere, ideal for both permanent and temporary crossings. The Belisha Beacon uses an ultra bright, flashing light guide panel in place of a traditional flashing light bulb for an even array of light. With a lifespan of 50,000 hours the Zeta Belisha Beacon is cost effective, it has reduced maintenance and running costs and it has no disposal or annual replacement costs.

Feedback

Westminster City Council are very pleased with the effect they have had on the pedestrian crossings along with the environmental and financial savings that they have provided.
